Have dry rot in tires dated 2001. Need to replace full set- 215 60R 16. What is recommended speed rating? Some tire dealers say "H"....others "T". I'm thinking "H" may be too tough a sidewall, giving an unnecessarily hard ride. Looking at Michelin X DT ("T") at Costco ....also Goodyear 94H ("H") at Sam's.

T is what was used from the factory, and would be appropriate for your Sable, as it gives you some breathing room above the rev limiter of 112 MPH.

The original tire was the Continental Touring Contact AS, you may be able to find some left over at a Ford dealer, as they are now discontinued. A good replacement other than the "Club" tires is the Yokohama AVID TRZ. I put a set on my mother's 99 Sable (different size than your's) and they are holding up very well, and have a quiet ride.

You're right on OE tires....they were Continentals you mentioned....30K+ and plenty of tread left, but 9 year age did 'em in. Upon pulling tires, we found dry rot was even worse than I thought. Went with Michelin X "T". Also have '00 and '03 Sables....will keep your Yokohama recommendation in mind for future needs.
