Sorry for the new threead but the other one is kinda finished and I still needed an opinion. They said the code on my Taurus was the Torque Converter but can that cause the engine to run rough and even die? When I started driving it though the rough running smoothed out and it only died while in drive.

Well they just called and it is ready so I guess we are about to find out. Than for all the help.

If the torque convertor stays locked when you stop, it's like stopping a stck shift without pushing the clutch pedal down.

It can be the solenoid sticking in the valve body. It can also be the torque convertor itself.

I had this problem when my brother gave me my car. Took me 2 days to change out the solenoid and that fixed the problem. Solenoid cost about $30. Somehow I managed to put the car in gear (with the engine running at high RPM two days after I changed the solenoid. YUP, I kissed the new solenoid goodbye.

The good thing was I was able to change out the solenoid again in 3 hours. Yes experience is a great teacher.
