Transaxle light on 2000 Taurus

Hi guys,

I bought 2000 Taurus SE 6 months ago and today I noticed that TRANSAXLE light (light with exclamation mark) never comes ON when key is in ignition. All lights are working but that's only light that never comes ON.

Missing Transaxle light should be next to the ABS light. Is there anyone that have 2000 Taurus SE to give me info should I have this light lit or not? That would save me a lot of time because I don't want to take a instrument panel apart if it's not necessary.

I'm afraid that previous owner maybe disabled that light before sale in order to hide transaxle problem.

There are also some other light that never comes on like LOW COOLANT and CHECK FUEL CAP but TRANSAXLE light is what concerns me at this moment.

Thank you,
G

Re: Transaxle light on 2000 Taurus

I have a 01 SES

When I turn the switch on, the AirBag, ABS, Fuel Cap, Theft, Low Fuel, Brake, Batt, Check Engine, Oil Pressure & Transaxle lights come on. The first six will go off after a few seconds and the remaining 4 goes off after engine is started. I don't have the Low Coolant option.

Im wondering, could this be a computer issue instead of bulbs? SHOZ123 or tbird100636 might be able to help you further, they should be on the forum after while.

If you don't have the Duratec engine, you won't have a low coolant light. Only the night illumination bulbs are replaceable, the warning lights are LED's and the printed circuit board would need to be replaced if that's the problem. The only diagnosis given for the Check Transaxle light is to remove the cluster, disconnect the PCM and check the circuit from the PCM connector to the cluster connector. From what I can see in the service info, 2000 doesn't have the fuel cap light. It may be on the cluster but it's not used. There is no diagnostic procedure for it on 2000 models, but for 2001 there is, so you don't have that light.

Re: Transaxle light on 2000 Taurus

Hey, thanks guys!

I was wondering about LOW COOLANT light too, but now I'm OK when you said that it's only Duratec... I have Vulcan.

So FUEL CAP & LOW COOLANT doesn't exist on my model and I should check the cables in order to check TRANSAXLE light. Whell, that's my next weekend job.

Thanks!

Let me know when your ready to do it, I'll give you a connector pin-out chart so you can acurately check the circuit.

Using an ohmeter, you test the circuit. Good luck!!!
