Trouble programming transponder key 2002 ford taurus sel

My dad has an 02 ford taurus sel and both my parents have a key for it. I just got my license and I figured I'd be driving his car alot, so I order a transponder key on ebay. I followed all the programming instructions in the manual, and the car starts, but the manual says the theft light shuts off after three seconds, and for me, the light never shut off. After it starts the one time, the car wont start again with that key. yet, if i repeat the process, the car starts, but again only the one time. Does anyone have any idea what is going on or how I can get my key to work?

Your replies ar greatly appreciated :)

thanks

What process are you using? Should just have two programmed keys, cycle each in the ignition for about 3 seconds then the new key for about 3 seconds. That should do it unless you have the wrong key for it.

Thanks for the reply!

I did that exact cycle. I just figured out though, the seller i got the key from on ebay falsely advertised the key. They said it was a transponder key. I got a knife and opened up the spot for the chip, and there was no chip, it was just a holder. Anyway, kinda weird that it started without a chip... lol

Several different systems were used over the years. Starting and stalling is possible. I would get a key local and program it.
