I am having a problem with the vss on my 98 Taurus perhaps someone can suggest a fix.
We got a trouble code of P0500 indicating problems with the vss and the car had every indication that this was the problem. SO I went to the local parts store purchase the vss and replaced it and continued to have the same problem. So we thought maybe it was a faulty sensor, went back and exchanged it, same problem. SO I decided I would try and get one directly from the dealer, put it in, same problem.

I then thought maybe the turbine speed sensor, so I replace it, same problem. I then attempted to swap out the pcm with another one I picked up from the junk yard and that made it worse. So I replaced the pcm and I am back to square one - a 98 Taurus that will not shift properly and gives the P0500 code.

Can anyone suggest either a way of replacing the pcm ( short of the dealers $600 - $800.00 replacement cost ) or another way I might fix this problem.

Did you check the wire going into the connector??? Did you test each wire from the PCM to the VSS with an ohmmeter with both the PCM and the VSS disconnected???

I'm Having the same prob in my '97 taurus i replaced the vss and still nothing. it doesnt even shift into second. i think you just saved me alot of trouble with all the methods you were trying. but if i get mine to work ill write back.
