I recently replaced the driver's side rear view mirror on 2001 Taurus. However the only mirror I could find was Maroon and my car is Harvest Gold. So I tried to take the mirror cap off to paint it, but the three retainers snapped. So now I need a new mirror cap. Only problem is, I can only find whole replacement mirrors.

There's a place on Ebay that sells them called Auto Parts Wholesale I believe. But they are $22 + $17 shipping for the non-heated mirror. But I don't need the mirror, just one of the plastic caps. They come with two mirror caps a smooth one and a textured one. I emailed and asked if I could just buy a mirror cap, but the guy said sorry, they are already prepackaged for shipping. I also checked the Ford dealer and they didn't even have a part number for it. Does anybody know where I can purchase just one of the black plastic mirror caps for the driver's side rear view mirror?

You won't find a source for just the plastic cap. Think about it, who breaks just the plastic? Usually when it gets smacked you lose the glass and everything. So you have to buy the whole mirror. You say you can buy the whole thing is $22. I don't understand your questions here. Did you really think you could get by for less than $22? $22 is a STEAL for this mirror.

I agree with what you said.

I never said it wasn't a bargain.

I said I only needed the plastic piece though and was wondering if it could be purchased separately.

Better to spend $10 or so than $40. It will be about $40 delivered for the mirror.

I will probably just have to break down and buy the whole thing.
