Why is steering wheel shaking with braking?

I have a 2000 taurus sel. Recently I had both front strut assemblies replaced as well as passenger side tie rod replaced. Car was aligned. Now when braking at high speed, especially coming down large hills, the front end shakes terrible. Seems more noticeable coming down hills than anywhere else. Front pads only have about 17,000 miles on them. The steering wheel shoke above 60 mph before I had the work done and figured the tie rod being bad caused that. That problem seems to have gone away but this braking issue is something that started just after having my car worked on. What could be the possible issues here. Thanks.

That's normally the rotor warped. Since it happened after the other work, I'd check with the shop that did the work. The work shouldn't have had any affect on that though.

Re: Why is steering wheel shaking with braking?

You now have a brake judder which was not there prior to the work they carried out , sling it back for checking asap . As Bert states , if the work they carried out was done correctly it should not cause the problem .Better safe than sorry .

I vote for warped rotors as well. You can also try a tire rotation to rule out any problem with the rubber.

Re: Why is steering wheel shaking with braking?

Will have the shop check it out. They had a hard time removing my old strut assembly on the passenger side so hopefully they didnt beat the rotor in the process. Thanks much for the help. If it is the rotor, is it a job that can be done myself? Have done a bit of repair work in the past. Was going to change the struts myself but I didnt have alot of free time to do what they did in a few hours.
