i have a 87 taurus and the starter solenoid (fender mounted) went bad. after i replaced it and reconnected the neg battery cable it starts to crank on its own without the keys in the ignition but doesnt turn over. iv been searching around all day trying to figure out what the problem might be but so far no dice. iv tryed tapping the solenoid and the starter to see if the motor would turn over while cranking the key but still nothing. im also not getting any power to anything else in the car. anyone have any ideas on how i might fix these problems?

Must of had the starter wire swapped with the fusible link wires for the vehicle accessories.
