My 01 mustang makes a weird noise that's coming from the front of the car. It's almost like a humming sound with a very faint screech. It gets louder as I accelerate and quieter as I slow down. It gets really loud when I turn the wheel in either direction. I notice it the most when I am stopped and turn the wheel. I thought it could have something to do with the alignment so when I got new tires i got a front end alignment. It is still the same. The guy that did it told me I need a brake job and I have a small exhaust leak. Could that have something to do with it or could there be another problem?
Sound like your power steering pump may be going bad or low on fluid. Sometimes this sound is made when the belt is worn or defective, but what you have described could be no other than the power sterring pump. Get it inspected and take the appropriate measures.
