confused 05 V6 Mustang Weird Electrical Problem(s)

I'm having electrical problems with my car. Last night as I was driving home, the headlights, dash lights, A/C instrument panel backlights, interior dome lights and all just shut off. I quickly pulled into a parking lot since I was driving blind. The car still ran, my tach worked, and my temperature gauge worked, however my fuel gauge was reading empty(with a full tank). I checked the relays under the hood, and swapped out both pcm's with like relays to try to limp it home, however that had no effect on the lighting issue. I then started to dig into the fuse box on the passenger side floorboard kick panel, and then big latching plug that is above the fuse box. Suddenly everything came back on when I fiddled with it. So I proceeded home again, and 5 min later the lights cut back out. So I was in square one again. I fiddled with that plug, and everything came back on, and I was able to get home. Now here's the kicker, once I was home, I turned on the headlights and the interior dome lights and unplugged that plug, and everything stayed on. So I'm lost on this one guys. And I don't really feel like paying the dealer $500 for an easy fix. Any Help?

Re: 05 V6 Mustang Weird Electrical Problem(s)

Had a similar problem with my 05 as well, just too many leafs collected under the cowl grill and blocked any water from draining out, and it eventually started leaking through the intake vent contained in that section and spilled tons and tons of water in the passenger footwell, and it didn't help it was still raining at that time. Literally had a pool in my car, and it was covering a lot of the wiring behind that kick panel in the passenger side. Shorted a few things out temporarily, lights wouldn't turn off, windows wouldn't work, radio wouldn't shut off when I opened the door, brake lights and indicator lights in the back stopped working, and the middle of the right brake light stayed on constantly. After I dried it it immediately started working again.

Could be similar to your problem plus or minus the water, but can't hurt to check and see if maybe a little drained in and collected enough to short out the wiring temporarily. Or it could be having a Ford moment.
