i just bought this 1965 mustang conv. 5f08c673091 it has a date code of 22q why is the engine a 1966 tag# 289 E 66 C 236-T-12 color blue? i thought the engine should be a 1965 black in color i am the second owner and the first owner says it is the org. engine can any one give me some info?

The block number(date code etc) is under the exhaust manifold on the drivers side.

1965 mustang engine

the casting# is c6ae-6015-c-4-6g13 this tells me again that this engine is a 1966 but no one has answered my question? why is this 1966 engine in this 1965 car?

You are right. That is not the original engine.

1965 mustang eng.

I believe it is the orginal engine even the transmission is dated 1966 . I'll ask you this question on the date code 22Q does the letter Q desinate that the model exceeds 12 months. So couldn't this car been started in late 1965 and fisined in March 22 of 1966?

Check on www.fomoco.com under the info resources section. They have a date decoder for your car. Maybe that will tell you when it was built. Also that guy is the master about stuff like this.:)

i do believe that this powertrain is the original.

it IS possible though, that the car was built near to the end of the 1965 model year and they equipped it with a 1966 powertrain. i had a very early 1966 coupe that was equipped with a 1965 engine and transmission and they were the original powertrain. plus, my brother has a 1966 that is listed on all of his DMV paperwork as a '65.

somehow this doesn't surprise me.
