1987 fuel issue?

Hey all,
I have a 1987 4 banger that has been passed down to me from my sister, and has sat around for 8 months or so. I have been working on it this and that, I didn't take out the old fuel, but have put in around 7 gallons or so of new fuel, and have put some sea foam and stp fuel injector cleaner.
I can get the car started with starter fluid, but after a few seconds it peters out. My sister had fuel issues before she stopped driving the car. any thoughts?

Thanks for the help in advance.
Robert

See if you can hear the fuel pump run for a few seconds every time you turn the key to run.

yeah, I hear it run for a few seconds when i turn on the key. I don't have a pressure guage to test psi, but might have to go get one.

Re: 1987 fuel issue?

If I remember right, it was around 40PSI but never checked it cranking. Just engine off and idling but it's probably about the same.

Re: 1987 fuel issue?

ok, thanks for all the help.

I checked the fuel pressure, and it was around 7-8 pounds. SO, I went and bought a fuel pump, put it in, and voilĂ , it went up to 38 psi. Now car has started, AND stays running. next on the list. Change all the fluids, new tires, etc. etc. etc.

Again, thanks for the help
