Hey all,
I have a 1987 4 banger that has been passed down to me from my sister, and has sat around for 8 months or so. I have been working on it this and that, I didn't take out the old fuel, but have put in around 7 gallons or so of new fuel, and have put some sea foam and stp fuel injector cleaner.
I can get the car started with starter fluid, but after a few seconds it peters out. My sister had fuel issues before she stopped driving the car. any thoughts?

See if you can hear the fuel pump run for a few seconds every time you turn the key to run.

yeah, I hear it run for a few seconds when i turn on the key. I don't have a pressure guage to test psi, but might have to go get one.

You don't mention fuel filter change.... when was the last one?

fuel filter was changed very recently. bought a fuel pressure test gauge, do you know what the cranking pressure should be?

If I remember right, it was around 40PSI but never checked it cranking. Just engine off and idling but it's probably about the same.

ok, thanks for all the help.

I checked the fuel pressure, and it was around 7-8 pounds. SO, I went and bought a fuel pump, put it in, and voilà, it went up to 38 psi. Now car has started, AND stays running. next on the list. Change all the fluids, new tires, etc. etc. etc.
