1996 Cobra Conversion
I have a 69 GT which I have put a Cobra engine in. Everything works fine, except one issue. The GT didn't come from the factory with the SAIC (Thermactor) system, but the Cobra did. Now the trick is to turn off the check engine light, either by turning off the function in the computer, or by simulating the system. All this is to pass smog.
I have a Tweecer, but it does not work on the LLX2 computer, only LLX3 and LLX4. Of course, I have the 2 and I don't have an extra $300 just laying around to buy a 3 or 4. I asked a couple of Cobra owners if they were interested in making a trade (plus $50) if they have the right computer, but all I got were raised eyebrows and "sorry."
Option 2: I am going to purchase the relays and solenoid to simulate the thermactor pump functioning. I also have the O2 simulators being delivered next week. The simulators will be mounted on the two rear O2 sensors. I am NOT eliminating the cats. I have no desire to modify the exhaust. I just want to get my car to pass smog.
That's the background, here's the question:
How do I hook up the O2 simulators? The sensors are 4-wire, the simulators are 5.
Here is what the wiring diagram for each sensor says (4 wires each):
GRY/RED Signal Return
PPL/LT GRN HO2S (LR) pin 61
TAN/YEL HO2S (LR) pin 96
RED VPower (+)
GRY/RED Signal Return
RED/LT GRN HO2S (RR) pin 35
WHT/BLK HO2S (RR) pin 95
RED VPower (+)
This is what the simulator has for wire labeling:
Ignition 12V Red
O2 Sensor Signal (Yellow)
Ground (Green)
Heater +
Heater -
Here's what I think, please correct me if I'm wrong:
Obviously power supply is the same for both (red wire)
Signal return goes to ground (green)
Here's where I'm stuck. I can't guess and check, since I don't want to ruin my ECM. Does anyone know which wires go where? Any help is appreciated.
