The years are far apart. I'd check to make sure the '88 block can handle a turbo before you go bolting one on there only to kill the engine. if anything, I'd take the whole engine assembly from the 'bird and transfer everything over so you don't run into any electrical problems. The newer engine is also OBDII whereas your '88 isn't configured for it. Personally, I'd leave it alone or find something closer to your year of car so you'll have less problems with engine management.
