2005 mustang windows (elec) problem

when the key is on the left and right windows work perfectly. When the key is turned off and either door is opened the windows both go down and stay down. If the key is turned off but no doors are opened the windows stay up, until the doors are opened regardless of how long one waits to open the door.
I have taken out both fuses in order for the windows to remain in the up positions, this is the only way the doors can be opened and the windows stay up.
Any ideas?

Re: 2005 mustang windows (elec) problem

I dont know if this will help but on my uncles work truck he had a short and the same thing happened to him. I think you should be under warranty though. 2005 although I dont know your mileage. I will try to find out where the short came from, but you may need a computer from the dealership to find it in that new of a car.

Re: 2005 mustang windows (elec) problem

I am pretty sure I know what you are talking about...Try these steps. I have done this many times, and if it is the same problem, it works...

INITIALIZATION MUST BE PERFORMED WITH THE DOOR CLOSED! (For convertibles, top and the quarter glass must be in the up / closed position.)
From the window switch, perform the following steps without stopping:
Operate the window UP and stall for 2 seconds. (Hold The Switch)
Operate the window DOWN and stall for 2 seconds. (Hold The Switch)
The smart window motor will be initialized and one-touch-UP and Short Drop will be operational.
Cycle the window glass an additional five (5) times to set the window "Soft Stop" for the down position.

Hope this helps...
