2007 v6 stick tranny noise - Ford Forums - Mustang Forum, Ford Trucks, Ford Focus and Ford Cars

My wife bought this car new in April. She drove an 2000 v6 stick from new. The 07 is really "grindy" sounding in 1st and second and the shifts are click-click noisy like there is no insulation in the tunnel at all. Its like a echo chamber up through the boot.
The dealer says V6 sticks were beefed up because many want to be GT buyers went to the V6 standard tranny to save gas and insurance , they drove them hard and Ford had to beef up the package because of higher than normal incidence of failure...with that beef up came the noise. Sounds plausible...but its the only thing about the car we don't like and I'm not sure this isn't "the old dealer runaround". Any similar experiences & fixes?

Most manufacturers spend their money where the market is - in automatic transmission refinement. I'd get another dealers opinion and see what they say. I'm not sure if adding any insulation in the tunnel will help much with the noise. Ford is right about beefing up the transmission. I for one would drive the crap out of it!
