4wd/AWD Aerostar aluminum driveshaft upgrade in a fox Mustang
Ok- so I followed some advice on those 'other forums' and found an aluminum drive shaft from a 'DeathStar' to install in my 91 Mustang GT. This post is to correct some misconceptions about the installation and the benefits.
An aluminum driveshaft from any 4wd or AWD Ford Aerostar will work in a 79-93 Ford Mustang without modification. It may fit others- but for the purpose of this thread, I am confirming the years above only.
Do not buy the 353 ujoints as other forums state. You must reuse the front and rear yokes as well as the u-joints from the 79-93 Mustang. If your u-joints are bad- this is a good time to replace them.
The driveshaft will work in 7.5 and 8.8 rearends as well as auto or manual.
It will only save 6 lbs 7oz of weight and the driveshaft is 3"- the same as on the car.
I did pick up the driveshaft at a pull your own for $30, so it was a cheap upgrade.
Any other upgrades out there that people can confirm 100%?
