Hi everyone,
Just bought a 1987 mustang Gt conv. 5.0 HO, you have to give it gas to start up and it wont idle without holding on the gas otherwise just dies. If you hold the gas and throw it in gear while reving the engine it goes but as soon as you let off it dies. Also, the power steering pump was spraying fluid out of cap so I replaced it and still have the same problem, I'm assuming the pump lines could maybe be clogged or have trash in the pump?
Any Ideas I would greatly appreciate any help!!

Could check engine coolant temp sensor , idle air control valve and map sensor /vacuum line .

You should check your throttle body's setting. On the side of the throttle body, theres idle air control. It controls the air coming into the engine, each time your give gas, it opens to let air in. When you turn on your car, it should open automatically ONLY if it's set to idle . Make sure it's set to idle so that your throttle body valve is open during idle. the old owner might have tweaked it and messed around with it. hope i didnt confuse you, or helped at least. This is just a suggestion .

Need to do a Idle reset. Unhook the idle air controller, turn throttle stop screw in until it idles on its own, try to keep around 600-650 rpm, now using a needle and digital meter- using the POS on meter set at low DC volts, poke needle through the green wire @ the TPS- to verify signal between .7 - 1.1 volt. If good then pull negative off batt for 15 min, hook up IAC and start. ECM will relearn within ten minutes and you should be good provided no other problems with vacuums-timing-EGR-or fuel system. If TPS voltage is low/high, loosen screws a little and try adjusting it till right, if it wont then replace
