88 Mustang LT 4cyl. Ignition trouble - Ford Forums

OK, first I am really new to this and please excuse any typos!! We bought a used '88 Mustang conv. with 4 cyl engine 20 mths ago as a car to store at Dad's in AZ. Well, it loads up when you are driving and starts backfiring. Well, at least it did when we got it. We are back in AZ to clear that issue up. Replaced the old worn out battery and now we can't get any spark! The fuel is getting to the plugs, but they are not firing! We replaced the ignition coil without any change. As the car will not run, we cannot take it in to a parts store for testing! Does anyone out there have any ideas? Thanks. Pat

A lot of things cause a car not to fire--First off check that all wiring is good and all plug-ins are in proper position--the pick up inside the dist. tells the computer when to ground the coil for firing--could be the pick up or computer-or could be computer not getting battery voltage--just to many things to point out one solution--bob
