94 Differential

A while back we racked the 94 3.8 up to have a look underneath and check for any problems. One thing we noted was that the rear pinion bearing seemed to be on it's last leg. Decided to pull the cover on the rear end and to my surprise the pins that release the axles are welded in place!!!

Not the axles themselves but just the pins.

This was one of the Mustangs built in Canada. Does anyone have any idea why they would do this? It makes rebuilding of the rear end impossible. Or is this something that a former owner might of done? Just curious
