96 Ford Mustang GT convertible top doesn't work - Ford Forums

My 1996 Ford Mustang GT convertible top doesn't work. There is no sound when I press the switch. Hopefully a fuse or something simple. I can not find anything in my Chilton Repair manual about the convertible top electrical system. How would I trouble shoot it? Or where can I find a guide on how to troubleshoot it?

Will the owner's manual point you to the fuse location?

If not- the pump is located to the front side of the trunk in the center. You can pop the pin connector going to the pump and connect a voltage tester to the two pins. Have someone operate the switch and see if you have juice to the tester. If you have voltage- the pump decided to take a permanent vacation, If not- your headed backwards to confirm the fuse or switch as a problem. Last likely problem is a pinched or broken wire.

Thanks to all that viewed. I figured it out. In case anyone is interested. By removing the center console (actually just removing console glove box), I was able to get to the convertible top switch, which turned out was cracked and no longer made contact. Turns out I need a new switch.

Thanks 1meanGT. I did figure out the fuses. Owners Manual. Duh!! Still did not find anything on troubleshooting, although as you see above I did figure it out and was posting as you replied. Thanks.
