96 Mustang Trouble Getting Out of Park when cold - Ford Forums - Mustang Forum, Ford Trucks, Ford Focus and Ford Cars

My fiance has a 96 Ford Mustang had anytime it gets cold outside (as it is now) the shifter won't go from park to reverse very easy and you basically have to shake and pull the crap out of it until it goes into reverse. I know a good deal about cars but not much about that Mustang in particular and just thought I would see if anyone has had this problem or has any input. Any advice would be appreciated.

probally your linkage getting stuck very common on older fords not a very tough fix were you have to move it all around its probally just has to catch the rite spot pop the panel off and check it out you got nothing to lose

I have a 98' Mustange GT that is having the same problem. I have narrowed it down to the brake switch. The Brake booster had a very small leak that was leaking fluid directly to the switch. This shorted the brake switch. I just replaced the brake booster and switch and it has gotten a lot better, but is still getting stuck sometimes. I am leaning toward the actual wires that connect to the brake switch becuase when it get's stuck I can lift my foot just a little on the wires and it gets unstuck. I hope redoing the wires is the final fix.
