My 96 Mustang makes a strange "groaning" noise from the front area of the vehicle when I accelerate from a stopped postion..often noise goes away after warm-up. The noise sounds deep and chattery also (low RPM?), like something is vibrating down by the engine.

Take the drivebelt off and see if it goes away. Also, Autozone will check codes for free, the light doesn't have to be on for codes to be present.

No engine lights but just the deep vibrating sound like a drive shaft clanking.

I had a similar problem with my 98 - it was just some bushing that was rubbing the exhaust... it only happened when the temperature/humidity and my acceleration rate caused the perfect conditions. Fixed bushing, no more vibration. Does it sound mechanical or just a general vibration. I'd try to check where the sound is coming from for anything rubbing/loose.
