99 mustang 3.8 belt tensioner ???'s

Hello,we have a 99 mustang w/ 3.8 v6 and the belt tensioner seems weak (I removed old belt w/ no tools & I can install new belt with no tools)and belt squeaks a lot and has come off twice.IS there a way to adjust the tension or is it just wore out ?What tool is needed to remove the tensioner ?Thanks in adavnce for your help .
