I'm writing a magazine article about buying vintage cars over the internet. I'm looking for examples of people who have made deals via ebay, websites, etc--successes and horror stories. How about it? Any juicy stories you'd like to tell?

I haven't yet but plan to be a restoration project next spring. I have done a lot of looking. As far as ebay goes. I think actually reading the feedback on a seller helps a lot.

i guess i am a used car sales man! i have sold a few cars on e-bay and some sales have gone well while others went south big time. i sold a 55 tbird that was restored but needed some detailing and minor stuff and it sold way over market (boy was i happy). the buyer drove straight from alabama to california and paid cash loaded it on a trailer and drove away smiling. that was a feel good auction. i also sold my Ford Econoline pick up and that was okay but not warm and fuzzy. i sold a studebaker that took the guy two months to pick up but he paid right away, and i sold a second studebaker and it was almost as bad! i'd do it again but i've had my doubts. hawkrod

We bought an ex-Arizona Highway Patrol Mustang that was listed on the Corral.net. The sale went smooth and the car hauler delivered it to our town in a few days. The car was everything the guy said it was and more. We were very happy with it. All we had to go by was the pictures that were emailed to us before the transaction. Later we found the lightbar over the internet.

I've bought 3. @ were advertised on a yahoo group, and the other was an EX FHP mustang on Corral.

I bid on a 98 GT on ebay but was not successful. I then called the dealer and worked out a deal on the phone and eventually flew there and drove it home, 600 miles. It was everything they said it was and I am very pleased with the car.

I did a search for my car on car sales. Then had the dealer drive it to my place for a test drive. Does this count?
For the record, it was the fastest, easiest and most enjoyable way I have ever purchased a car. Everything was done over the net and all the paperwork was done at my house. Took less than a week to do to.

Buying Cars Through The Internet Would Be The Last Resource I Would Use, Unless U Cant Go Check The Car Out Urself, Its Like Ur Playing With Ur Money, U Never Know, What Might Be Nice For Other Might Not Be Nice For U.
