mad Can you believe this???

the battle with the wife over buying an 05 GT seemed to finally be settling down- she actually went with me a couple nights ago to check out some at a local dealer, and had to admit its a pretty darn nice car- then I get to talking to a sales guy about placing the order finally and guess what: as of several days ago, FORD IS REFUSING TO TAKE ANY MORE ORDERS FOR GT'S. NONE.
Never thought I'd see the day that they'd build a car I like as much or more than a 69/70, yet they did...But not in a million years would I have ever thought an auto manufacturer would not take a deposit on a current production car!!! Hell even if it takes a year to get one, if I'm willing to wait that long, what do they care- a sale is a sale...only thing I can think of is they must plan on jacking the prices way, way up for the 06 models- either this is going to be the plan or they are just being stupid.
About the time they start jacking prices around I think their 'booming' market is going to go sour really quick. Surely they based the car on a profitable pricetag, but if they start gouging as bad as some dealers are, shame on them. Ive heard the few remaining 'floor model' GT's are selling for 10K over sticker...

They used to say "the customer is always right", but I guess now they dont want to classify people wanting JUST TO ORDER A GT as "customers"...

If you were in charge at FOMOCO what would you say:
A) "Hell, we got sold enough GT's to keep us busy the rest of the year- if
anyone else wants one, tell them to just buy the V6 or f*** off..."

B) "if someones willing to put a deposit down for a car they wont see for 6-
9 months- dont lose the sale- we want every customer we can get!
If nothing else give them a friggin brochure to look at while we're
collecting interest off their money! We cant lose!!!

Hmm...tough decision huh...Guess thaty why these guys make the big bucks.

rant over

Re: Can you believe this???

What makes you so sure the reason was because they are jacking up the prices?

Re: Can you believe this???

If I were you. I would take a look at dealerships in other states. You might be able to find a GT that way.

I agree with Stacey.

Try another dealer because as you probably already know, not all dealers know what they are talking about and some ,may not be totally honest .

yeah but...My sister in law is office manager at a local dealer, She said they got email a little over a week ago- then the next day a registered letter from Ford saying no more 05 GT orders, no ifs-ands-or buts...they cannot build enough to even meet current orders.
a guy at another dealership told me he heard they were about 13,000 units behind, and were falling farther behind daily due to all the cars being ordered...

the reason I *THINK* the 06 pricing is gonna jump way up is that they quit taking orders...if pricing was same, why wouldnt they take a deposit/order???only one reason comes to my little mind- gouge the customer- why not dealers are selling out at or above sticker.
Problem with "what the market will bear" pricing is that the car aint underpriced- its simply that they finally built something so good that it IS worth the price finally...a couple years ago, I was thinking, heck I could pick up a nice fully restored true musclecar for half the price of a loaded minivan...why spend todays prices on a car nobody will want in a couple years...then FINALLY this sweet new Mustang rolls out- still a lot of money to me, but not so much that I'd say 'it aint worth it' like my opinion of a lot of-if not most of- the other cars out there today.

If they were not thinking of jacking the MSRP up, they what reason would they have not to take orders- even if 6/9/12 month leadtimes? Surely those turned away will be back next year to try to get in line for a likely unchanged 06(unless they get pissed and buy something else- surely some wont wait, and Ford will lose some sales, I just dont see why they wouldnt sell 2007's if someone was willing to plunk a deposit down on one...

Just thinking about something else- wonder if 'Corporate Average Fuel Economy' ratings are dropping from all the V8 sales? that might be another reason behind this...I dont even know if CAFE annual increases are still required or not to avoid penalties...besides the v6/auto gets 25 hiway, same as v8/stick from the window stickers Ive seen.

Re: Can you believe this???

not CAFE, but says in here outstanding build orders for GT's at 61%(estimated 33%) and they are trying to step up rear axle/engine suppliers to meet increased demand...interior packages were a problem too, but sounds like they are fixing that.

Re: Can you believe this???

maybe as i would expect the next generation GT that is most likely already planned is being set to release sometime 2006.. doesnt mean it has to be a body change but it may be something mechanical. No use taking orders for something they cant supply. by the time you get one in a year. that new model could set to be released and you will be sore that you arent getting it. count yourself lucky you can even buy them cheaply. NEW in AUSTRALIA they are 80,000 to 100,000 dollars AUS.

mad Re: Can you believe this???

Yes, I can believe it. I ordered a 05 Mustang GT from Montogomery Ford in Cincinnati, Ohio. I ordered the car in December of last year. A legend Lime model with all of the options. The car has still not arrived. I turned around and ordered the same exact car from John Nolan Ford in Cincinnati Ohio. I ordered the car four weeks ago. I get a call two days ago from John Nolan telling me that they have an approximate arrival date. The middle of August !!!! I got to looking at BOTH of my order confirmations. Montgomery Ford forgot to put a priority code of ten on my order. Priority 10 means it is a SOLD unit. They typed in 40 which means it is an ordered car for the lot.
Ponderous, F@#$ing ponderous !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My wife has purchased 2 Toyota Highlanders in the last year. Her salesman calls me 6 days ago and tells me that someone traded in a Redfire Metallic 05 Mustang GT, loaded, for a Toyota Tacoma P/U. I bought the car at a steal. I have since then cancelled BOTH orders. I did test drive a GT and when the dealership put it up for sale, it sold to the highest bidder for 38,500 with over 10,000 miles on it. If the FoMoCo does not take the time to screw you, don't worry. The dealership will do the screwing. Oh by the way. The mark-up for the 06 is 3%.
