What are the pros and cons of adding an aftermarket Cold Air Intake?

I'm not familiar with them but a friend of mine has a 2006 Mustang with the CAI and his check engine light comes on. He was told due to the flow of air, the MAF gets confused. The code he gets is for the MAF. I don't know what he's done about it. It's an extra car that he doesn't drive much, especially this time of the year.

Mines an '03 V6. The effects are probably different with the 2005 redesign...

For 2005 and up most Cold air intakes require a tune to function properly because the tuning is bigger than stock. That causes more airflow which can make your car run lean. A cold air intake will get you more horsepower and torque. I have a 2010 V6 mustang with a BBK cold air intake. It did not require a tune. I have a Diablosport Trinity tuner now and it made my car feel like a whole new machine. No more lag when I hit the gas and gains of up to 30 HP when I use 93 octane gas.
