Re: EEC-V Owners look here !!!!

couldnt it be arranged some how for a EECSucka (or Sonof Sucka in this case) to be posted arround, set up some sort of deposit scheme or what not and get this unit circulating and getting people to take dumps of their ECU's.

I second 'Minge's idea of arranging a meet for this kind of thing. I know that at a cruise we could easly get arround 20-30dumps from diffrent cars, ranging from EF1 V8 manuals to EL 6cyl auto Wagon's.

Re: EEC-V Owners look here !!!!

I know it is a while off (but it isn't when you think about the festivities in the way) Albury-Wondoga All Ford Day 2005!

Plenty of cars there! PS i've got a laptop that doesn't matter if it gets fried! and i'm pretty handy with electronics so I can build a (at risk) eec sucker.

45,000km service coming up - and i'll be asking for a sizable list of fixes:
* Gearbox (3rd time)
* Steering click (5th time)
* Brake Shudder (2nd time, and has the applied "Fix")
* etc...

Probably not wise posting it around..

Firstly the unit is a proto type build, ie, not a printed circuit bird, more of a 'breadboard', so it can easily be damaged if not handled nicely.

Second of all, if it gets connected in reverse ... ekk, the damage it could cause.. i'm guessing more to the ECU rather than the LPT port, as the LPT port is buffered by the 2 chips on the 'sonofsucka'

anyways, i'm going to take some happy snaps of the process

be prepared for pictures shortly

Re: EEC-V Owners look here !!!!

I'm going to be in Melbourne on the 11th and 12th, I may be able to visit you to get an ECU dump if you need one of a car like mine.

Mine is a 4DED, which seems to be the non-XR V8 ECU, with 3.23 diff, and no speed sensitive steering.

http://www.dannyshosting.com/ford/EC...s/DCP_0051.JPG

http://www.dannyshosting.com/ford/EC...s/DCP_0052.JPG
Remove the plastic, and the then the rubber door seal

http://www.dannyshosting.com/ford/EC...s/DCP_0053.JPG
remove the 2 metal clips from the body of the car and move carpet away

http://www.dannyshosting.com/ford/EC...s/DCP_0055.JPG
Remove the screw or pop rivet in order to open bracket.

http://www.dannyshosting.com/ford/EC...s/DCP_0056.JPG
You can see the remains of my Rivet i removed eariler

http://www.dannyshosting.com/ford/EC...s/DCP_0057.JPG
Remove that white plug. Dont pull on it, it has a big lever type clip

http://www.dannyshosting.com/ford/EC...s/DCP_0061.JPG
This is where you unplug that white plug from, TAKE NOTE of the Grey Lever, i believe thats the open position

With the white plug unpluged, move the EEC so its in this position, to allow for a 10mm socket to undo the plug. The loom is very tight, be careful not to pull on it.
Feed the loom from behind rather than yanking on the EEC
NOTE: in order to get slack, there is 2 loom clips which plug the loom into part of the dash (so it doesnt drop onto the passengers feet)..

http://www.dannyshosting.com/ford/EC...s/DCP_0063.JPG
Removed EEC (note 12RB = my code)

http://www.dannyshosting.com/ford/EC...s/DCP_0064.JPG
This is the plug covering the J3 Connector, there's another sticker which lists 12RB as well, my ecu code

http://www.dannyshosting.com/ford/EC...s/DCP_0065.JPG
This is the EEC-V with the 6 screws removed (the front comes off, and the back drops off too)
Note the Connector on the right hand side.. That is the J3 Connector

That J3 connector (along with the whole entire EEC-V) is covered in a silicon type residue.. THE WHOLE THING!! CHIPS TRACKS BOARD AND ALL

That will only need to be removed from the J3 socket.. There is various ways to doing this, however, i used fine sandpaper until i hit the copper, and then i tinned the contacts lightly with a bit of solder.. i DO NOT recommend doing it this way.. There is some sort of chemical you can use which will desolve the silicon in that region

http://www.dannyshosting.com/ford/EC...s/DCP_0066.JPG
Back of EEC-V.. Note the J3 connector again on the right hand side.. This side needs to be cleaned as well.

http://www.dannyshosting.com/ford/EC...s/DCP_0067.JPG
Circuit all hooked up and dumping..
For some strange reason, i was very unsucessful in sucking the code out.. (It came out, however, it did not verify) and all the times i tried to dump the code, none of them matched the original time i sucked the code out.. It seems there was alot of interferance.

Previously i used a different laptop to do the job. on the weekend i will pull it all out again, and try another laptop, see if i get better results. (By the way, i used Dos, not Win98)

Its got something to do with the parallel port.
