i have a 89 mustang with the 2.3 the original exhaust had 2 converters. In December of 05 i had to replace the exhaust so i went with 1 universal converter made by Walker. So last month i did not pass the emissions test. did a tune up month before. could it be that the exhaust does need the two converters or what. thanks

Check your timing, check your exhaust manifold for cracks, clean out your egr, check all of your vacume lines. Honestly there are alot of possiblitys. There isnt just one reason. Is your 2.3 turboed? I dont think you would need two cats to make it pass.

If anything, couldnt you disconnect the battery for 30min and disconnect it before you get it smogged?. The engine should read clear for atleast 20min
