Foose Mustang Stallion

Foose Mustang Stallion

Foose Fighter: Chip Foose delivers his first unique Mustang at Dream Cruise

NATALIE NEFF/AUTOWEEK

For those who can’t afford one of his million-dollar Ridler Award-winning confections, Chip Foose has unfurled his impeccable hot-rodding talents on the 2006 Ford Mustang to create the limited-edition Stallion. Evidently, enough time has passed to free the Stallion name from its association with a gaudy decal-decorated version of the 1976-77 Mustang II.

A styling exercise more than out-and-out tuner car, the Foose Mustang Stallion features subtly revised bodywork that gives the car a strikingly polished stance. The changes include cleaner front- and slightly enhanced rear-end styling, lowered rocker panels, a sculpted hood with a functional air scoop and custom crafted 20-inch wheels.

Inside, a brushed-aluminum-look treatment replaces much of the standard trim, pulling the whole interior together with a cohesive theme. The final touch will be a traditional tri-color bar with a Foose badge replacing the usual pony.

The project is a joint venture between Foose Design’s Huntington Beach, California, studio and Unique Performance of Dallas. Unique Performance is best known for production of the Shelby continuation cars, as well as for the high-performance parts it designs for 1960s muscle cars.

Unique Performance is also working with Ford to develop a supercharger for possible installation in the Stallion, in addition to looking at other Ford Racing catalog parts for the car. The major performance modifications on the Stallion include larger Baer brakes and lowered Eibach springs.

“We’ve been thrashing on this car for quite some time. It’s been a large undertaking, pulling all the pieces together,” says Doug Hasty, president and CEO of Unique Performance. “We’re pretty excited about it. Chip doesn’t quite want to put the pen down on it. It needs to be a cool-looking car. Performance can come.”

The 11th annual Woodward Dream Cruise played host to the car’s official public unveiling, where almost 2 million people lined the boulevard through nine cities and more than 16 miles in a daylong celebration of everything automotive.

When the Stallion goes on sale this fall, interested parties should be able to take delivery through a network of 85 Ford dealerships, which will get up to 3000 serialized vehicles a year. With a full factory warranty, expect prices between $38,000 and $41,000.

Re: Foose Mustang Stallion

Foose Design and Unique Performance are launching a line of limited edition muscle cars based on the current generation Ford Mustang during Detroit's Woodward Dream Cruise. Named "Stallion," the first pre-production custom ponycar will be shown to the public at the Ford Motor Company display in Birmingham, Mich., at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 20, 2005.

"Over the past year, Unique Performance and Foose Design have collaborated on several vintage car projects," said Doug Hasty, President and CEO of Unique Performance. "We've taken our relationship to the next level with a special edition of the 2006 Ford Mustang. 'Stallion' combines Chip's cool, avant-garde styling with our muscle car expertise to create the ultimate, limited production street machine."

Award-winning Chip Foose of Foose Design penned the "Stallion" Mustang's bold styling. Unique Performance, a leader in limited production American muscle cars, will assist in the engineering and development of modifications, as well as manage all marketing activities. Detroit-based Tecstar, a top OEM supplier and development company, will handle the engineering, validation and assembly of the vehicles. Specialty products from Dupont's Hot Hues(TM), Ford Racing, JBA, Baer Brakes, Kenwood and BFGoodrich(R) will be included into every Foose-designed Stallion.

The Stallion is scheduled to be available through select Ford dealers nationwide in early 2006. Production will be capped at only 3,000 per year with an MSRP projected to begin at $38,000.

"I've always dreamed of creating a limited edition streetcar," stated Chip Foose, president of Foose Design. "Ford's Mustang is an extraordinary platform for a custom muscle car. We wanted to stay true to what makes the Mustang special but, to create a distinctive new look, we revised the styling cues to include a custom front grille and hood, new front and rear fascias, added some discreet scoops and lowered the stance. Each car will include custom designed wheels and interior touches. It's the ultimate cruisin' machine that stands out from the crowd."

Executives with Unique Performance and Foose Design announced a formal agreement to create limited edition performance cars in early 2005. The two companies initially launched a series of super cars based on 1960's era vehicles. This is their first current production vehicle program.

Unique Performance builds the Shelby G.T.500E and G.T.350SR continuation cars based on vintage Ford Mustangs. Chip Foose, famous as the lead designer on TLC's popular series Overhaulin', is one of the top automotive designers today. Automakers and individuals worldwide covet his skills and award winning one-off creations.

This exciting program began when Foose was bombarded with requests to recreate his stunning one-off vehicles. His company, Foose Design, is not structured to build production cars while Unique and Tecstar are experts in this field.

"Stallion will turn heads on the street and have the muscle to back up its stylish good looks," noted Hasty. "We've stiffened the chassis, uncorked the exhaust, tightened the handling, improved the induction and upgraded the stopping power. Working closely with Ford Racing, we plan to offer even more performance options sometime next year."
