Lightbulb Ford V8 in a Mustang celica (XD maybe)

I have been toying with the idea of making a mini mustang.
Mustang back celica with a small V8 in her!

the thoughts were a 302 with a celica box or a supra box or the ford auto.

what are these worth, do they put out much power etc?

Also what did the XD's have 351's, any 302's and did they have LSD or 9inch rears or manual box's?

because it will be a huge job i may just play with a XD if there move ok, have nice insides etc (never really looked at them)

bit heavy and old tho now?

XD's had a 351's and 302's. Cleveland.

Mine has a 9 inch, LSD and 4.11 gears. (Not standard though)

Gearbox was a C4. Then C10.

I don't know what the standard manual gearbox was.

You can't go wrong with a XD though. (I am biast)

The interior is getting a bit dated now though. But, because there was so many models based on the XD, retro fitting parts is easy.

You can upgrade the interior from a XG-XH ute. Same with door mirors.

I really love the look of the front of a XD. But you can put a XF front on it, along with XR6 headlights and grill from a XG ute. This will make the car look a lot more modern, but still have a legal 351 under the hood.

I love my XD.

Why dont you put a Lexus 4.0L V8 in it? Would go quite well and still actually handle.

I was going to use the 1uzfe toyota V8 but its been done so many times (member of a few toyota clubs)

and i wanted old school car + engine combo

the 302 is easyer to fit, cheaper and more parts

If i was going all out quality and power the toyota wins but for a fun project i think the 302 / 351 might be better

what power do they put out? i gather they drink a huge amount of fuel?

What about a later model fuel injected 5.0, either a cut out from Aussie Falc EB or similar or an import Mustang or F150? Windsors are a lot lighter and smaller especially when putting in a non original V8 car.

You know, somebody actually complimented me on my driving today. They left a little note on the windscreen. It said, 'Parking Fine.'So that was nice.

A mate of mine put a Range Rover V8 into a Celica.
And that was a tight fit.

what the difference between the clev and windsor

also the 5Lt EFI V8 would cost a lot more and be more work to install with the EFI.

eg. EFI fuel lines pump, looms ecu sensors all more expencive to replace and sorce

maybe i should just forget it all and save a heap :)

The figures I have for the Lexus V8 outs it about 2kg's heavier than a W302, pretty sure its physically bigger too.

TurboCelica,
Forget about the Clevo in the Celica, Windsor is smaller and lighter.

An old carbed 302 Windsor might set you back $300, but would need a rebuild so maybe another $2K depending on what you do to it.
With a decent inlet manifold, small 4bbl carb, warm cam, extractors expect about 160kw's. For a few extra neds, getting the small chamber 289 heads will up the compression to around 10:1 or slightly over if its bored, shouldn't be a problem in a light Celica.

IIRC, XD V8's got a B/W diff (9" diff dropped after XC), C4 if auto/302, FMX auto/351 or a B/W 4spd single rail if manual.

Wasn't there a black RA28 Celica (Mustang shape) in Street Machine Magazine a few years ago? I'm pretty sure it ran a V8 of some description. Anyone have any info on that car?

The 9" was standard in the 351 XD, the 9" was dropped with the XE (coil springs) not at the end of XC.

By the way Turbo Celica, why not just save the hassle and have a Falcon engine in a Falcon.
