Front springs for 68 Mustang Question

I am helping my Friend with his 68 Mustang. He has the 289 engine. He replaced the springs with the supposed Stock replacement springs, but the front is sitting a little high. We were talking about cutting them down, but the ride already seems a little too firm and we dont want to make it any worse.

Has anyone else had to deal with? Any suggestions? is there a spring from another vehicle or year that works better?
