2001 v6 Ford Mustang

My check fuel cap light just came on and I have been smelling gas fumes lately. I did some Google searching and one guy said his fuel smell was caused by the seal on top of the tank. He indicated that his mechanic said this was fairly common for a 2001 mustang? Anybody else heard of this or had this problem? I guess if that seal was loose or bad it could also trigger the check fuel cap light. Do you have to drop the tank to replace the seal? Any input would be appreciated.

Looks like I found the problem

You can smell gas from there and the gasket was coming apart. Looks like I will be dropping the tank. At least it's not 40 gallon like the one I had to drop on the truck.

Any other things I should do or parts to replace while the tank is out?

I got the new grommet from Ford and only took a couple of hours to swap it out. Changed the fuel filter as well. I had to disconnect the battery to get the check fuel cap light to go out. I could have two problems but hopefully that grommet will fix it. I'll report back if that light comes back. Gotta love the internet for fixes like this. I'm not sure if I would of found it w/o pulling some hair out.
