Got in "tune" today! 30hp for $300!

Got my car professionally custom tuned today! Started at 200hp and 230lps torque. Came out at 226hp and 239lbs of torque. Car is much smoother and responds much better too. Things I learned today:

Car runs the same if not a little worse with the exhaust uncapped.

car runs better with more power with the vac advance disconnected. Appearently some cars like no vac advance. Who knew?

Air cleaner on and air cleaner off (paper style) did not seem to make much of a difference. Did say I would probably see an improvement with a K&N one. Appearently paper is restrictive, no filter can sometime cause the airflow to be a little turbulant. K&N not restrictive and smooths out airflow into the carb.

Solid blade fans cost you as much as 20HP. They said they had picked up 20hp on one of their cars by removing the solid fan and going with an electric one. They suggested a clutching fan as an option. Probably good for 10lbs+.

Actually got the car to break loose a wheel on a straight dry patch of concrete, at 30 mph, and just using the throttle (no clutch). I could feel the power in the small of my back. Pretty cool!!!!:s6: :s6:

I don't think the cost was too bad. Gotta consider the cost of just renting equipment is pretty expensive. O2 sensor was worth it, god, my plugs have never looked so good! :s5 They did all the tuning for me and allowed me to make suggestions, try this or that etc. 4 hours on the dyno for that price. What does it cost these days per mechanic hour?

That is Awesome. Way back when in the 80's when I had my 66. I went to get a custom tune up and the guys seemed irritated that I was even hanging around. I don't remember what the cost was then but no where near the results you got!!

Yeah, these guys really seemed to know what they were doing. One specific guy was working on the car, but others would wander over, look at the dyno numbers and curves and then suggest something else. They didn't seem bothered by questions or suggestions. Seems to me the way it should be!!!
