Ford Mustang ForumThis forum is for the discussion of all Ford Mustang models, including the Ford Mustang, Ford Mustang Convertible and Ford Mustang Coupe and all older/classic models and submodels.
Of course we would all like to see the BA shed some weight, but would a 1628kg BA do 0-60mph (0-97km/h) in 4.82 and 0-100mph (0-155km/h) in 10.81? That's almost 1 second quicker 0-100km/h and almost 2 seconds 0-160km/h. Not to mention the quarter miles. Cobra R does it in 13.09 second quarter according to Motor Trend (read sig), but Ive read on a mustang owners forum of members getting into the high 12's with thier stock Cobra R's. Remembering that a quarter mile is actually longer than 400metres, this means that taking into account the best time of 14.06 for the GT (motor apr 03), the Cobra R is over a second quicker over the 0-400metre run.
They both have the same engine (well same block, heads and displacement) with almost identical power and torque. Surely 200kg can't make that much of a difference?
EDIT: Also soemthing else worth noting is that Cobra R had 265's on the rear while the GT only has 235's.

The GT runs 245/40 ZR18 tyres actually.

Yes it is a typo if Motor says it runs 235s. It runs 245/40 ZR18 Dunlop SP Sport 9000s.

Dunno if this is relevant, but on the commentary for the F1 cars, they said that one litre of fuel adds about an extra 1/10th of a second (correct me if I'm wrong) to a track-time (Melbourne). Whatever it was, it was a noticeable difference...
um that has to be wrong generally speaking for the cars we all know and love, more likely around 50kg =1/10 of a second F1 given the high power / weight ratio are obviously different
we see the same thing with the US LS1s the times are unbelievable. We ramp down there dyno figures based on there dyno configurations yet still run great numbers
Stock engined Z06s are running in the high 11s unreal
Cobra R has run as quick as 12.7 1/4s @ 115mph, its suspension would be more tuned to outright handling also, not 1/4mile. (Its basically a street legal race car, much like a Porsche GT3)
200kg should at worst add half a second to a 1/4mile time. (100lbs =1 tenth)
