Read How do you tell a 5.0 from a 5.0 H.O.

How can you tell if a motor is just a 5.0, or if it is a 5.0 H.O. I took the motor out of a 71 Torino and wanted to see which it was. Thanks

Sorry, if it's a 302(5.0) original to the 71 Torino, then it's nothing special. The 351CJ(5.7) is the good small block to get, it has 4 bolt mains.

I know that it is nothing special, but I wanted to know and I am often questioned on how to tell them apart. I wish the Torino had the 5.7 in it, but then I wouldn't have gotten the car for free

your engine (if original to the car) is a regular 5.0. it is too early a model to be a roller motor which was introduced in the early eighties, and the 5.0 HO is a roller motor with a 351w firing order.
the main way to tell the difference between a regular 5.0 and a 5.0 HO is the firing order. A regular 5.0 will have a firing order of
1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8
