Ok, we've changed out the starter soleniod, because it didn't work. We also pulled the starter, as it too was broken.
Well, now with a new solenoid, starter, battery, cables, we figured we were ready to go. I go to crank the motor (3.8 V6) and the starter is so damn loud...sounds like it's grinding on the flexplate. Ok. That's bad, so we shim it out. Trying again, it does the same thing. The flexplate itself shows no visible damage or grinding. So we're pretty sure that the spacing of the starter from the flexplate is not the problem. The starter tests good on the bench tester as well.
Any ideas on where to go from here?
