Importing a cobra

Hey fella's. Just as a thought what would it cost to buy a stang from the states, ship it here and then convert comply and register the car. Anyone know who would/could/will do this. Would this free trade agreement thing with the states make buying a car from there cheaper or not. Toss up between xr8 & cobra. I'd say a cobra would win hands down.

Re: Importing a cobra

Should only cost around 4k if I recall right.

Depending if you buy a new or used cobra and the year will depend on the price. I am about to put my 03 Cobra on the market. I am looking to get 26k USD for it.

As far as conversion........you may want to contact FPV to see if they have any of their spare parts from the 01/02 conversion. From what I recall the costs on that alone were 20k AUD.

Well my thoughts are for a used o3. Conversion from a certified mob in sydney is $1o,ooo? and i think $4,ooo-$5,ooo is fair for a 20'' box. Are you coming back from the states are you LunaticSVT, if so did you consider bringing your car with you.

Re: Importing a cobra

Some of the early mustangs are around 10k to convert. An 03 would be at least 20k for a cheap job. you also have all the air bag and computer stuff to do as well, then get it engineered.

Re: Importing a cobra

isnt there a huge import tax fee on top of freight. i am sure there is big complications unless you are a registered vehicle importer.
I am led to believe it is much cheaper to import a mustang from japan due to their time on the road laws. we imported a 95 cobra manual some mild damge from japan 3 yrs ago and it owed 11,400 landed as a parts only vehicle (for wrecking)..
the $10,000 conversion in syd is budget as, ive been to their workshop in yenorra if its the same place.. it uses rods and linkages to hook up to the oposite side. very tacky, cheap and hard to work with in the future, steering is notchy etc.. check out cross over car conversions in melbourne. they specialise in stangs and did mine for me $16000. full mirror image conversion. they do have a website you will have to do a search..
