Info Needed!!

Can someone tell me or show me where I might find the approximate amount of voltage/watts being used by my car with the lights, heater, radio, etc on?

The car is a 96 mustang GT with the mach 460 stereo system.

It has a 130 amp alternator, but I'm getting really bad voltage drops since adding an aftermarket sub and amp. Wondering if the car was close to max with just the stock equipment and that the addition of that aftermarket equipment was to much for my alt to keep up with or if my battery or alt are going out and need to be replaced.

Thanks!!

Re: Info Needed!!

You'd need a tester that can check amperage. Shops have them and they wrap around the battery cable to see what amps are being used, and what the alternator is putting out by wrapping it around the alt wire.

Re: Info Needed!!

Yeah,

I was just thinking that someone might know that a stock 96 mustang GT uses "X" amount of amps/volts with the car on and the heater, lights, and stereo running and that the stock 130amp alternator is capable of putting out "X" amount of amps/voltage at idle, etc.

Just wondering if that 400 RMS amp addition is putting my car over the limit or if I have a dying alternator or a battery with a bad cell or some other unknown problem.

Thanks,

Re: Info Needed!!

Our Police cars have the 130 amp alternators and run a lot of equipment. It should be able to handle a lot.

Re: Info Needed!!

Yeah I wouldn't think that 1 aftermarket amp would cause that big of a voltage drop.

I guess I'll have to start checking grounds and then get my battery and alt tested.
