Intermittent Starting Problem

01 V6 Mustang w/auto. Battery new and retest last night, new alternator (1 month old). Sometimes car will not start, turn key and it's dead. Disconnect battery and ground out cables, reconnect, car will start. * hours later, may or may not start. Is this a "theft detterent" issue, or do I have a short somewhere. Only other thing I can think of is a intermittent short in starter. Help!!! Wife's car, need I say more.

Re: Intermittent Starting Problem

Have you tried a different key? It could be a PATS problem.

Re: Intermittent Starting Problem

Couldnt be a faulty inhibitor switch / neutral safety switch or what ever they call it on that model ?

Re: Intermittent Starting Problem

Yup, had it happen on a couple of different Fords. I had my ;ast van in the shop 3 different times and each time I told them what the issue was, but the first two times they tore the dash apart and fiddled with the ignition wires. The last time I let them know it was warranty whether they like it or not and that I was giving a report to our Fleet Account holder.
