I have an 87 mustang with a 91 conversion, When I go to time the car and insert the sencor that engages the computer, (located near the distibutor) my harmonic balincer jerks like 20 degrees and the engine shuts off? Everything is stock except the ford motor sports mass air conversion, with computer A9S? Does anyone have idea's what it could be or have ran into this problem before?
Maybe your harmonic balancer pressed on weight has rotated around on the balancer and no longer acurately represents the correct timing marks. When you plug in the connector and the EEC takes over- it may be advancing the timing so far that the engine can no longer run.
I did not have this problem, but encountered something similiar when I kept finding my timing incorrect on my 91 5.0
You can check this by moving to TDC and see where the indications are on the balancer.
