I have a 1995 GT Mustang and since a few days ago I can not get it to shut off. It is a stick so I can stall the engine and then disconnect the battery cable but it is stuck on when the battery is connected. I need to get it into the shop but does anyone here have an idea what could cause this so I know what I am up against? thanks.

More info would help. Does the key turn to the off position, but the car continues to run? Or the key will not turn to the off position?

It could be a problem in the ignition switch itself and if so then I would get it to a shop to get checked out quickly as you do not want a wiring short and a fire.

Does it start ok.

switch turns fine, although for sometime I have been able to take the key out while it is running.
