I just recently purchased a 3.8L 2000 mustang and I am encountering squeaking from under the hood. I pushed on the serpentine belt and it moved about 1 1/2 inches. So my assumption was the tensioner was bad. So i went to autozone and bought the new tensioner and a T50 3/8" starbit to remove the old tensioner along with a can of PB Blaster. Any tips on how to remove the tensioner? Its about to break a 3/8" snap-on ratchet

Here is a copy from my post on someone else who asked this question just a few weeks ago. You may be turning the bolt the wrong way. Some are reverse thread.

Easiest way to check which way the bolt will come out. Mark a white line on the serpentine belt with chalk. Start the car and note the direction of chalk line travel on the belt.

If the belt is traveling clockwise:

pulley above the belt- counter-clockwise thread
pulley below the belt- clockwise thread

If the belt is traveling counter-clockwise:

pulley above the belt: clockwise thread
pulley below the belt: counter-clockwise thread

If someone finds me wrong- please chime in. This has worked for me so far.
