Noise 07 Mustang GT Convertible

Hi,

I have a 2007 Mustang GT convertible. There is a noise that really bothers me, it happens only when the car is cold, after it warms up it goes away. The problem is this: I start the car up and drive, when the car reaches 3000 rpm, which is usually 3rd gear, I hear a scraping/rattling noise coming from under the car. The noise will only happen in the 2900-3250 rpm range. It sounds like its coming from the transmission, or somewhere nearby. It goes away after ten minutes. I brought it to the dealership, they think its a heat shield above the exhaust, I don't think so, considering if the clutch is in, and I rev it up to 3000 rpms, it will not make the noise.

What are the chances that it is a throat bearing, or something in the transmission that takes the torque from the engine and would therefore respond to more rpms?

If it were a heat shield, it would seem the problem would be constantly there, whether hot or cold, lets face it, a rattling shield is a rattling sheild, at any temperature.

Any insights or guesses to the problems is greatly appreciated!!!

If you have any similar problems please post them on this thread, because they may be related.

Thanks

Re: Noise 07 Mustang GT Convertible

The only rattle i heard on my 07 GT when it was new was clutch chatter when shifting softly. My dealership said the clutch was set up like that so the elderly would have a easy time with the stick. I dont belive its the heatshield. My bet is the clutch, once it heats up and exspands it goes away. I am no expert if it is severe TAKE IT TO A SHOP let it cool down and show them then bill the dealer. If not wait tell your clutch goes and replace with a Ford racing one. Replaced my clutch no more rattle.

Re: Noise 07 Mustang GT Convertible

Hey there, I've had the same problem with my 2007 Mustang GT Coupe, except it happens when i gun it, and then stay steady at high RPMs between 1st or 2nd gear. First the noise would happen every so often and only on cold start; now, it happens every time I turn the stang on and get it going, its really embarressing because It didnt sound like that when I drove it off the lot.

They replaced the Catalytic converter in it; and I still have the @*&^@#$ noise. There is also a problem with the clutch, I'm dropping the stang off at the dealership tomorrow morning after work and I will keep you updated on what they replace and what they think it is. I was told there was a NEW TSB that came down yesterday and it described my problems to a T, thats what the service rep said at the dealership anyways; I'll keep you posted

You are NOT alone!!!!

I would suspect a bad throwout bearing.
