Odometer Light Not coming on right away?

My odometer light does not usually come on for 1-2 minutes after the car is started. When I turn the key to the run position it comes on then usually goes out after starting. The other day I was on a 10 minute ride and it never came on. That's is the longest ever. It has been doing this for the last couple of years. Never did it before that. I had the codes read a while back and nothing was showing up. No other problems with the car running when it does this. I tried doing a google search. Only thing I really found was something about the pats system. I guess that is some kind of anti-theft? Not even sure if my car even has that. I don't have any kind of after market electrical accessories installed on my car. Any ideas? Is this something I should be concerned about? Thanks

There must be a connection problem in the dash for that to happen. As far as the PATS, your car does have it. If you try to cut a key without the chip in it and programmed to your car, the car won't start.

Re: Odometer Light Not coming on right away?

Thanks for the reply Bert. I'm not sure if I know how to pull the cluster on my car. Done it on a couple of other vehicles but never on the car. I'll see what I can figure out.

Re: Odometer Light Not coming on right away?

Thanks again Bert. I've been looking under the dash but have not found anything yet. I guess the next step is to pull the cluster.

Right. Then since it's intermittant, you won't know if you have it fixed for sure. Those are tough to fix. Good luck.

Re: Odometer Light Not coming on right away?

I pulled the cluster and really the only thing I found was a few of the light bulbs were a little loose. Not sure if that could affect the digital display. I guess one of the connectors on the back could of been loose but couldn't really tell. After I reconnected the battery, I started it 15-20 times and the odometer came on every time. So hopefully it is fixed, I'll have to report back.

It did it again today. I found this site but not showing how to fix. I think it might be a solder joint going out?

Ford Intermittent Odometer Repair

Edit: Found the odometer repair on a f150 forum. Hopefully, I have the same problem.

Re: Odometer Light Not coming on right away?

That was a good find, I;ll bet that will do it. We had some poor solder connections in the body control modules that caused the headlight to quit at times. That was on our 03 Police Crown Vics.
