Overheating ?

My 2004 mustang 3.9 v6 temperature guage has starting moving to the hot side of the guage yet there is no physical indication that the car is overheating.
I replaced the thermostat and flushed out system, this seems to have helped for a couple of days but the problem came back.
The electric fan works with or without the ac on,checked for leaks none found and the coolant level stays the same, also replace the radiator cap.
Could the culprit possibly be a malfunctioning coolant or engine temperature sensor?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
