reverse

i have a 1972 mustang automatic and when the car is on and i put in reverse it goes lights come on and everything but it will not move it will jump forward actually it does this everytime i was wondering if it has something to do with linkage problems any1 have any ideas ?

it sounds like your reverse gear is going bad.

First of all you need to check the transmission fluid levels. There is a dipstick for this usually it will come up near the firewall in the engine bay. The car needs to be warmed up and engine running with transmission in park to check levels. If the level is low then you need to add Auto trans fluid and this is added down the dipstick tube. This is not the engine dipstick but the transmission dipstick so be sure to get the correct one.
