Hi have a few questions about the US AOD 4-speed auto trans. I have a BTR 4 speed auto in my Falcon now, but there isn't really anything that can be done to shift-kit them & strengthen them. A few people have said to look at an AOD.
Firstly, what sort of price would one of these be worth?
Can they be hotted up easily, and if so, are they that expensive to hot up?
What kind of specs should I go for, my car is a Fairmont, which is a luxury sort of car, and I would like to keep it that way, so no 3500rpm stall, or massively high pressure lines, so it chirps into 3rd.
How could I control one. They are computer-controlled, what sort of computer do they use. Aussie falcons use the EEC-V ECU, I dunno if this controls the trans as well, though.
Finally, do these boxes come with lock-up converters? This makes it possible to run a higher stall.
Thanks

Your wrong. The AOD isn't computer controled. They can be modified quite easily using a TRANS GO shift kit. They come in kit's ranging from mild to wild. Thede are pretty strong transmission's and are fairly easy to build if you've built transmission's before. Thetre are a few speciality tool's required. For the part's and shift kit contact WITTRANSPART'S@AOL.COM and good luck with the project

Apparently, Caslemain Rod Shop have the Bellhousings in stock. Is an AOD-E Electronically-controlled? I might give them a call one day, the AOD-E idea is just something I was chucking around

There are two types of AOD's. AOD and AOD/E. The /e designation means that it is electronically controlled and can be done so by EEC/4 or 5. As for bolting it up to your motor, it depends what it is. If it is a windsor block, not a prob. If not you should be able to get an adapter plate from Castlemaine Rod Shop. The AOD's can also be strenghten to take 550hp ( or so I've been told). I've had mine stage 2 shiftkitted with a 2000 stall and it will take 300hp easy. Mine incidentally is sitting behind a 94 Mustang HO motor with an E303 cam, and all this is in my 67 mustang.
theres a few places in australia that sell used aod auto boxes. one place in melb for approx $250. they dont offer warranty.. why do you want a bellhousing conversion?
EF's are a mustang 5.0 engine. the only difference is adapting the shifter, and the starter motors are on opposite sides.. mine is on the RH side. but I am 99% that your starter flips over and bolts straight on the the AOD bellhousing. the only area im not certain about is the flex plate. you may need an AOD one.
I was very close at one stage doing this conversion to my ED falcon.. Try and go with the AOD (-93) as no need for computer..although the AODE is a stronger box.. (94-95 mustang), PM if you want phone numbers etc for the guy in melb with the boxes
