synthetic vrs rg gear oil on a new install

I am doing a rear gear change this weekend on a 08 GT to FRPP 4:11s. Which is better synthetic or reg gear oil and why? Also what would be a good modifier to use?
Thanks all for your time and input.

Synthetic is better. Ford recommends it and puts it in when the car is new. I'd use the Motorcraft friction modifier since you won't be doing it every month. When 360ci gets in here, he can give you many more details on the fluids.
