Toploader VS Engine block

I picked up a top loader from a 72 mach 1 mustang 351 to put in a 66 mustang coupe with a 1981 ford 302 in it. Will the stock bellhousing match the late model block?

Re: Toploader VS Engine block

If the 351 is a Windsor, yes. Cleveland, no.

Re: Toploader VS Engine block

Yes, it will fit. 221/260/289/302/351W/351C all use the same bellhousing pattern. The 351M and 400 use the 429/460 bolt pattern. Some people who do not know the difference call the 351M a "Cleveland" but there is only 1 351 Cleveland. Just as there is no such thing as a Ford 400M except for a silly nickname that stuck with the truck guys. Ford only built one 400 engine and the 351M didn't come out for 4 years later. Some dingbat at Ford designed a valvecover label with a typo that said something to the effect of :

Engine family: 351/400M

Silly people took that and ran with it.

Re: Toploader VS Engine block

If the block doesn't have the hole for the clutch pivot, you will have to pick up the aftermarket bracket with the pivot on it if you want to use the standard early Ford clutch linkage.
